Jane Smith

I studied Art in Social Context at Dartington College and then gained a B.A.Hons. in Ceramics and Glass at Birmingham City University.

I have taught ceramics and glass for over 30 years in schools, colleges, social services and adult education whilst also producing work for galleries, exhibitions and private commissions.

I am now focusing on my own work, but am also a Founding Director at Create CIC in Camborne, which provides a community ceramic, glass and jewellery studio. I occasionally run masterclasses in ceramcs and glass.

My work is always about feelings; Images that provoke an emotion and then stick in my head. I then have the need to express them physically.

There is a constant impulse to handle the material and challenge myself to produce work that represents these feelings.

My work reflects the search for balance and harmony and explores both the differences and commonality between two apparently diverse materials showing that forms crafted from two disparate materials can produce an object of dignity and poise.
